Archive Workshops and Open Days
The Raphael Samuel History Centre’s archive days provide a guided induction to some of London’s remarkable archival resources. The workshops are free and open to all – but spaces are limited so please reserve a place.
Black British History, 1945 to the Present: Local Archives, National Histories
Saturday 9th October 2010, 2.00–4.00pm
Venue: CLR James Library, 24-30 Dalston Lane, E8 3AZ
This free workshop will introduce you to sources for Black British history contained in the Hackney Archives. The archives contain a diverse collection of records offering fascinating insights into the histories of Black Britons, both locally and nationally. This workshop will give you the chance to explore documents, letters, photographs and other written and visual sources, uncovering little-known stories of community, political activism and struggle, literature, religion and more.
This workshop is intended to open up this rich history, and give you a taste of possibilities of further study. Led by Dr Eleni Liarou.

Queer History – a workshop marking LGBT History Month
Saturday 5th February 2011, 2.00–4.00pm
Venue: Hall Carpenter Archives at the London School of Economics
The Hall-Carpenter Archives (HCA) are Britain's major resource for the study of lesbian and gay activism in the UK. This half day workshop will guide you through some of the highlights of the collection, giving you to the chance to handle leaflets, newspapers, letters, diaries and ephemera from the 1950s to the present. Workshops leaders include LSE archivist Sue Donnelly.
