East London History: a new route into the past.

Taught at Bishopsgate Institute, Birkbeck and on the streets of London, the new guiding strand of the History Certificate in Higher Education will build your knowledge of the capital whilst also helping you develop the  skills you’ll need to  plan and deliver guided walks – especially of the East End.

In the first year students take the three linked modules:

East London Guiding (30 credits)

Students learn basic guiding techniques and practices in term one and then develop their own guided walk with tutorial support in the second and third terms

People and Power in the Making of a Global City, London 1600-2000 (30 credits)

A two-term lecture and seminar series introducing the broad themes and major trends in London’s modern history.

London from the East: a Social History of the East End (15 credits)

this Summer term course, based at the Bishopsgate, gives depth and breadth to your knowledge of east London

In the second year students complete their Cert HE (a further 45 credits) with modules of their choice from the programme.
